Could not obtain a required interface error

I have created a linked server that connects to "mpp" file, and it connects and opens successfuly returning a list of tables that exists in the linked server to the mpp file.

But the problem i am facing now that whne i write a select statment to get data from the tables in this linked server

select * from linktompp.testmpp.dbo.tasks

such that linktompp is the linked server name

testmpp is the catalog name

tasks is the table name i need to select data from

it shows an error that says

"Could not obtain a required interface from OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Project.OleDB.11.0'."

"[OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Project.OleDB.11.0' IUnknown::QueryInterface returned 0x80004002: IGetDataSource]"

could anyone tell me the reason of this error

Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'MYSQL

Hi
I am trying to run a stored procedure on a linked MySQL server
i can select from the MySQL server, so i know that there is a valid
link
i can run the stored procedure on the MySQL server using the command
call triodent.UpdateDownloadTable
but when i try to execute
exec MYSQL.triodent.UpdateDownloadTable
i get the "could not locate..." error
is it because MySQL is using call rather than exec? if so doesn't
anyone have an idea for the syntax?
many Thanks

Could not get the data of the row from the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLE

We are running SQL2000 SP3 on two servers. One is Server 2003 the other is
Server 2000. Both servers are linked to one another. The 2003 server is
running DTC. We are running several lightweight jobs that are occasionally,
and more often than we like, having the following error:
Could not get the data of the row from the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB'.
[SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7346) [SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7312) OLE DB error
trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' IRowset::GetData returned 0x80040e23].
[SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7300). The step failed.
The sp basically set variables with data from both the primary server A and
the linked server B using views. This part is successful. The next step is
updating information in server B via a view. This appears to be where the
job is creating the above error. The last part of the sp is another update
entirely on the local server A.
I appreciate your help...
Thanks...Hi
Error 7312 is "Could not set up parameter for remote server '%.*ls'."
I have sometimes seen this error when a remote server has a deadlock or when
a lock can not be acquired to satisfy the request. Have a look at what is
happening on the linked server when this occurs.
Regards

Could not find server

I have linked a server withinh the "SQL Server Management Studio
Express"
I also created a database where I created a view using the openquiery
statement.
The view runs perfectly within the "SQL Server Management Studio
Express"
I created a new project with "Microsoft Visual Studio 2005"
I created a shared data source to the database where I created the
views.
The data source is OK because I can see the cretaed views on the Query
Builder.
Once I created the query on the Query Builder and I try to run it, the
following message appears:
"SQL Execution Error
Error Source: .NetSqlClient Data Provider
Error Message: Could not find server 'xxx' in sysservers. Execute
sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sysservers.
Could not use view or function 'xxx' because of binding errors"
I have looked for server 'xxx' in sysservers and it is there, so I do
not understand where the error originates.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Abraham Hirsch
Mexico CityAbraham,
Is the working connection local and the non-working connection remote?
If so, open SQL Server Configuration Manager and adjust connection
protocols for SQL Express.

Could not fetch a row 'VFPOLEDB'

I am running an MSDE of SQL Server 2000 with the latest server pack.
I set up a linked server connecting to a FoxPro database using the vfpoledb
provider.
On my development machine I can get this linked server to work, but on my
test machine, without a full SQL version, I get the error "Could not fetch a
row...". Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have tried
reinstalling the vfpoledb.exe but that didn't help it.
--
Evan HennisHi
I am not a VFP expert, but you may want to check that the locations for the
VFP database are correct and that MDAC versions are up-to-date and
consistent, and VFP is patched to the same level.
You may also want to see if your permissions on these machines varies.
If this is working on one machine and not the other implies the mechanism is
correct, although if the data is different it could be a factor.
The are plenty of posts concerning this error and VFP
http://tinyurl.com/94xhx and replies suggest that you check primary keys,
read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;207595 ...

Being able to connecting to the database probably rules out permissions at a

if the latter check for differences in the databases. If not it is most

both connecting to a FoxPro database on the development machine. BUT, I have

It may not solve your problem, but be sure you've got the latest VFP OLE DB
provider (VFP9), downloadable from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/updates . It is not included
with an MDAC installation.
Are you trying to read data or update data? Updating VFP data via a linked
server was not supported in earlier versions of the OLE DB data provider.

I think Cindy has answered this! You can check the file version numbers by
looking at the file properties. If they are different you may have to either
change the way you are doing this or regression test the parts that use the
OLEDB provider.

The VFP runtime is different from the OLE DB data provider. The runtime
supports Visual FoxPro applications (EXEs and DLLs), and also access to Fox
data from within those applications. The OLE DB data provider supports
access to Fox data from "outside." I don't know how you installed the
runtime but it doesn't necessarily install the OLE DB data provider, unless
by the "runtime" you mean a full install of the Visual FoxPro IDE, which
will, of course, install the OLE DB data provider.

day so who knows. Any way, the issue was with the VFP OLE DB provider not
getting installed. I redid my installer and it works now.

Being able to connecting to the database probably rules out permissions at a

if the latter check for differences in the databases. If not it is most

It may not solve your problem, but be sure you've got the latest VFP OLE DB
provider (VFP9), downloadable from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/updates . It is not included
with an MDAC installation.
Are you trying to read data or update data? Updating VFP data via a linked
server was not supported in earlier versions of the OLE DB data provider.

Could not fetch a row using a bookmark from OLE DB provider 'VFPOLEDB'.

I'm trying to update a VFP table via a linked server in SQL 2000, I'm able to use "openquery" to view the records from the table, but when I try the following command:

Update M2MEDI...x830rels

Set favailship = 100

I get the following error

[OLE/DB provider returned message: Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.]

OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'VFPOLEDB' IRowsetLocate::GetRowsByBookmark returned 0x80040e21: 01000000].

Could not fetch a row using a bookmark from OLE DB provider 'VFPOLEDB'.

How do I fix this

Thanks

For the linked tables use the four-part naming and make sure that the 'Distributed Transaction Coordinator' service is running on your server.

Isn't this

M2MEDI...x830rels

the 4 part naming convention

Could not fetch a row from OLE DB provider 'VFPOLEDB'

I keep getting the error "Could not fetch a row from OLE DB provider 'VFPOLEDB' when I do a query on a FoxPro Linked Server through SQL 2000. If the query returns 0 rows I don't get an error I just get the structure of the table. But if the query returns rows I get the error. I can replicate this on a test machine but my development machine works fine.

I have checked the SVRNETCN and the CLICONFG apps in SQL Server and they seem to be set the same on both machines. I am using NamedPipes on the server. I tried starting the DTS and that didn't fix the issue.

Would anyone know what I don't have working correctly?

NOTE: I also posted this in the MSDN Newsgroups

Hi Evan,

First, be sure you have the latest FoxPro and Visual FoxPro OLE DB data provider, downloadable from msnd.microsoft.com/vfoxpro/downloads/updates .

Can you describe your data in more detail? Do you have exactly the same data on the machine that works and the machine that fails? There's a possibility you have some anomaly in the data.

To make sure your linked server is set up correctly, do you have any other data that works on both machines?

What does your query look like? If you select only a few fields, especially character fields since they are the "safest" can you get the expected rows from the bad machine?

|||

Lets leave this answer as me being dumb. My installer isn't working correctly. I wasn't getting some things installed. It is still kind of weird that it would return no rows ok, but once there was data it wouldn't work.

I ran into the same thing just today.

I was running an update query on a linked server.

I added a primary key on the destination table and that handled the problem.
